Instruction

First specify the input parameters - i.e. the material parameters and the information about the structure and its cross-section. Then, run the calculation by clicking the Calculate button. Provided that valid input parameters were given, the results will be displayed.

Information

This program is used for the calcultaion of the span/depth ratio of a reinforced concrete member and its limiting span/depth ratio according to [1, 7.4.2].

Using this limit, the deflection problems of the member in normal circumstances can be assessed. (More rigorous checks are necessary for members which lie outside "normal circumstances", or where deflection limits other than those implicit in simplified methods are appropriate.) Provided that the span/depth ratio does not exceed the limiting span/depth ratio, the deflections may be considered as not exceeding the limits set out in [1, 7.4.1 (4,5)]. However, when that span/depth ratio exceeds the limiting span/depth ratio, it is not necessary to calculate the deflections explicitly, e.g. using the method given by [1, 7.4.3].
