Balík Radim

Conversion of digital 3D data into format VRML

finished 20.01.05

This diploma thesis is a part of project called “Živé divadlo”, which aims to create a 3D information system of baroque theatre in Český Krumlov and to develop a commonly usable technology of creating such systems. The thesis tries to find a suitable means of converting three-dimensional CAD design to an interactive virtual model. A design of appropriate converting application is considered to be the main output of the thesis.

Laser Scanning as a tool for metrical documentation of architectural monuments and creation of  sources for their reconstruction – metrical documentation of a part of Charles Bridge in Prague

finished 29.06.05

This diploma thesis deals with the utilization of laser scanning for documentation of historic buildings. Laser scanning is relatively new technology, it has been using for the last 3 years in the Czech republic. The principle of the technology is based on aiming an object with a considerable number of 3D points during a short period of time (point clouds) followed by processing of these data into a required output. One of our most famous historic monuments – the Charles bridge in Prague – was documented by this method. Two laser scanning systems were used for this documentation. The whole bridge was scanned with the scanner Cyrax 2500 on the occasion of project of firm Gefos a.s., a part of the bridge between the 13th and 14th pier inclusive was scanned with the device Callidus 1.1. From obtained point clouds 3D wire model and building tracings – sections, plan in view and view of external walls - were made. The dissertation compares the used scanners, processing software (Cyclone and RealWorks) and created outputs.

Living Theatre

finished 23.02.05

The aim of this work is to show the way in solutions of spatial data visualization. The work helps to solve the problems of conversion from the most used format in metrical documentation of structural objects (.DGN) to its visual presentation (.VRML). Application, which shows these spatial data, is created for the research of the model elements. The work otherwise clearly shows optimizing of each format in the horizon of the whole project.

Everything is created and demonstrated on a baroque theatre in Český Krumlov - UNESCO historical sight.
